Malcolm’s work possesses a distinctive, hard-to-classify quality. Although his paintings can be broadly grouped into three categories, semi-abstract surrealism, figurative pieces, and landscapes, many of them transcend these boundaries. A significant portion of his oeuvre incorporates a symbolist-surrealist sensibility enriched with touches of fantastical realism and expressionism.

As a linguist and philosopher, Malcolm held a profound love for language, and this depth of thinking permeates his art. His paintings are layered with symbolic motifs and conceptual echoes, often shaped by his fascination with Greek mythology. Many works reimagine the stories that inspired him most.

Viewers frequently describe his paintings as fluid and dreamlike. Otherworldly, yet strangely familiar. Each piece balances reality and imagination with a quiet sense of playfulness and mystery, inviting the viewer into a world where meaning unfolds gradually and the emotional resonance stays with them long after, much like the memory of a dream.

Unfortunately, Malcolm provided few written reflections on his paintings, and for many of his paintings, especially the numerous untitled pieces, his intentions will forever hold a measure of mystery. Nevertheless, certain paintings offer interpretive guidance through the titles he chose and through insights preserved in family recollections. Some of these insights accompany selected paintings throughout the gallery.
